I grew up as a military child living in Japan and Guam before returning to Chicago at age 12, an experience that shaped my adaptability and perspective. With more than a decade in the nonprofit sector, including service work that began during my undergraduate years at the University of Missouri–Columbia where I earned a degree in English and Business, I have dedicated my career to advancing impact-driven organizations. Since being in Chicago, I have worked for countless nonprofits as a consultant and as a Director of Finance, CFO, or Accounting Manager across the North, South, and West Sides, including serving as Accounting Manager for a foundation with a budget of more than $100 million. I hold a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago with an emphasis in nonprofit and financial management as well as a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Concordia University. Currently, I serve on the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center Advisory Board and I am an active member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and the Black Women’s Young Professional League. Beyond work, I enjoy traveling, concerts, floral design, long walks, and using filmmaking and curated events to drive social impact. One of my proudest accomplishments is surviving cancer a couple of years ago while working full time, a journey that grounds my favorite quote: “If I would have gave up, I wouldn’t be doing this right now.” I believe the future of the nonprofit sector lies in embracing for- profit strategies to achieve long term sustainability. Sassetti immediately stood out to me as a “Cinderella job story,” aligning perfectly with my return to consulting and my commitment to helping communities and people who look like me, who may not always have been afforded the same opportunities. I see accounting as the backbone of every mission, without it nothing stands, and I bring a work style rooted in discipline, creativity, and collaboration. Inspired by Beyoncé’s example of competing only with oneself and never staying confined to one lane, I strive to bring that same innovation and drive into every space I enter.
