The month of December is always a busy and full time for shopping, cooking, enjoying holiday parties and events, and getting the house ready for the winter.
It is also the time of year when savvy taxpayers get their “tax house” in order. Did you have a better than expected year financially? If so, you can probably benefit from an end-of-year donation to a charity (or charities
Did you have a better than expected year financially? If so, you can probably benefit from an end-of-year donation to a charity (or charities). One of the best methods of making a significant donation is with appreciated stock. Donating stock provides the donor with a real win-win situation. Not only do you avoid paying capital gains on the stock, but you also get a deduction for your charitable gift. If you want to emulate the big guys (Warren Buffet comes to mind), then donating appreciated stock is a perfect example.
Of course, there is the added benefit to the recipient not-for-profit organization. Organizations of all kinds, whether arts, education, or social service organizations have been hurt by our State’s inability to achieve a final budget deal, so your gifts this year are as important as ever.
Here at Sassetti we work with over 100 nonprofit organizations. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that one should never assume an organization is well off and “doesn’t need my money”. Every new year is a challenge for organizations. Rarely can they rest on their past achievements.
You can also support your local organizations in December and beyond in other ways. Volunteer at your local food pantry, walk dogs at the local shelter, attend a holiday concert put on by a local choral organization, or serve a meal at a local soup kitchen. Recently, my wife encouraged me to donate blood. I can honestly say it gave me a great feeling once it was done.
In December we also celebrate the holidays here at Sassetti. We enjoy a wonderful meal as a firm and give thanks to our fine staff and associates for their hard work and efforts to make our firm a better place.
In that same end-of-year spirit, we thank our many clients, both new and long-lasting for their loyal patronage and the great working relationships that they help create. We pledge to do our best to continue to improve our services and make you proud to be clients of Sassetti LLC.
Happy Holidays
